Prologue

1. The author uses simile to describe the way cells look by comparing them to fried eggs. The simile she uses to explain the different functions of the parts of the cells are the nucleus comparing to the yolk and the white part of the egg comparing to the cytoplasm. These similes suggest that biology is a lot like how nature is, everything is similar.

3. The simile that Donald Defler uses to describe mitosis as a choreographed dance.

5. To Defler, the importance of the discovery of the HeLa cells was oh, so very important. It helped develop drugs for treating things like herpes and what not. They’ve  been used for everything pretty much.
